Students at Strafford Elementary sailed the seas and learned some important lessons as Author Isaiah "Izzy B" Basye visited the school on Nov. 8. He and illustrator Ben Askew were there talking about their latest book, "The Mighty McKraken." This fun story introduces kids to concepts such as please and thank you, sharing, and treating others with respect. more
On Friday, Nov. 10, Niangua school held its Veterans Day Assembly. The assembly included programming to honor veterans and educate the public about the ultimate sacrifice service men and women make. However, students, teachers, and community members in the crowd were in for an extra special surprise. more
Even though Veterans Day fell on a Saturday this year, that did not stop local schools from honoring those alive and passed. Conway schools held an assembly on Nov. 9, with all students k-12 attending. Other schools around Webster County, including Marshfield, Logan-Rogersville, Strafford, Niangua, and Fordland, held assemblies on Nov. 10. Many drew large crowds as guests and vets attended. The assemblies included speeches, music, and meals, with each school honoring those who answered the call to serve. more

On Monday, Oct. 9, the Marshfield R-1 School District hosted a networking event in the high school gym, encouraging a connection between the school and local businesses. 28 local businesses and people of interest attended the event and had conversations with teachers to promote community partnerships within the district. more

The Marshfield Bluejays continued showcasing their athletes for the fall season by having another night of Meet the Jays in the high school gym. Audiences only had to pay the entrance fee of a single pack of gum to meet the girls golf, boys swimming, and volleyball teams. more

New fencing around the playground area at Niangua Schools has been installed ahead of the school year, a project that could not have been completed this year without help from the community and support from school administrators. more

On Sunday, May 21, Marshfield High School held its commencement ceremony at the O’Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, honoring the 190 students graduating from the R-1 School District. more
Thursday, May 18, at the High Street Baptist Church, Strafford High School honored its 79 graduating seniors with a commencement ceremony. more
Fordland High School held its commencement ceremony Friday, May 19, honoring its 38 graduates and filling the FHS gymnasium with excited family and friends. more

As our school year starts winding down, it is time to think about our students and their summer plans. Summers are a time of fun and enjoyment for kids, full of outdoor activities, bike rides, swimming, and more. For students in the age group we serve, however, it can also mean lots of unsupervised time. Many parents work Monday through Friday jobs, and kids ages 9-11 are often considered old enough to stay home alone. With this in mind, we will be having a Shook Safety Night on Tuesday, May 16 from 6:00-8:00 pm. This event is designed to provide parents with the knowledge necessary to keep their children safe, in hopes we will see all of our kiddos again in August, happy and healthy. more
