Blessing Box installed in Northview

The First Southern Baptist Church of Northview established a new community Blessing Box over the weekend, aimed at providing essential goods to those in need. This new initiative, which features a recently installed box in front of the church, encourages community members to donate and take items as necessary.

Kim Stafford, a church member and organizer of the project, shared insights into the purpose and functioning of the Blessing Box, located at 112 Arbor Lane.

“We want to create a space where people can give and receive help,” Stafford explained. “It’s important to recognize that while our town has changed over the years, there are still many who need support.”

The church is currently collecting non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, as well as clothing essentials like long-sleeve onesies. “We’re not putting everything out at once to ensure that the box remains stocked and useful for everyone,” Stafford noted. “But donations are welcome at all times.”

This initiative is backed by generous local contributions, including gravel donated by Mid-State Quarry and support from the local fire department. “The community has been very encouraging and involved in this project, and we’re grateful for their support,” Stafford said.

The Blessing Box is the only one in the township of Northview, designed to be a resource for the entire community.

“If you need something, please come and take it. And if you have extra items to share, we encourage you to donate,” Stafford emphasized.

As winter approaches, the church plans to expand the offerings in the Blessing Box to include warm clothing items, such as coats and gloves. Stafford, who also works for Choices Pregnancy Center, has drawn inspiration from other churches that have implemented similar outreach programs.

“The idea of the Blessing Box resonated with us because it’s a practical way to help those in our community,” she said. “We’re committed to serving others and making a positive impact.”

With the Blessing Box now in place, the First Southern Baptist Church of Northview is taking meaningful steps to support its community, reflecting the spirit of generosity and compassion that lies at the heart of their mission.
