190 'Jays leave the nest

Posted

On Sunday, May 21, Marshfield High School held its commencement ceremony at the O’Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, honoring the 190 students graduating from the R-1 School District.

The Marshfield Band opened the ceremony, playing "Pomp and Circumstance" as the seniors, proudly dressed in their blue gowns, marched in.

Senior Molly Cannon greeted everyone and reminded her fellow seniors that in a few short minutes, they would be graduating and to remember this moment.

High School Principal Jeff Curley spoke next, echoing the reminder to the seniors. Superintendent Mike Henry followed him, acknowledging the hard work the seniors had put in these last few years and the hard work the assistant superintendents and school board did in the background.

The audience and seniors then heard a performance by the MHS Concert Choir, performing Fly Away Home. Next, senior Andrew Whitecotton presented his fellow seniors Michael Jakob and Bryna Norman, who spoke to the class, reminding them of the journey they had taken up to this moment.

The School board then presented the Jays with their diplomas. Capping off the ceremony was student body president Macie James, who also led the class in the cap toss. Congratulations to the Bluejays of 2023. Check out a full photo album from the ceremony at the Marshfield Mail Facebook page.
