Breast Cancer affects many women- mothers, aunts, daughters, grandmothers and so on. However men can also be affected by this relentless disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control's website, one in every 100 breast cancer cases diagnosed in the US is a man. Those odds are small but never zero. Such is the case for Marshfield resident John Paul Bearden.

On the chilly morning of Saturday, Dec. 3, while most residents of Marshfield were in bed or pouring their first cup of coffee, others decided to start their day off on the right or maybe left foot. The first annual Ugly Sweater 5K Run was held at the First Baptist Church in Marshfield. The Missouri State University Baptist Student Union, a non-profit organization, hosted the run. All proceeds from the event went to helping BSU, which further helps students in their religious studies while they attend college. The event was successful, with 33 participants, several spectators, and volunteers.

Starting in 1940 with only 17 members, the small group organized a temporary charter or membership with the American Legion and set up a post in Seymour. One of those members, C.O. Taft believed in the American Legion's Mission so much that he would lease some of his lands to erect an American Legion building. In the 1960s, the American Legion Post #306 building was officially built in Seymour.
