The second annual St. Jude Truck and Tractor Pulls went off without a hitch last weekend, held at the Webster County Fairgrounds in Marshfield Friday and Saturday, April 28-29. As the first official truck and tractor pulls of the season across the state of Missouri, spectators and pullers traveled for miles to attend the event. All workers were volunteers, allowing pull founder Jake Thornton to donate the entirety of the proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“This started last year in Rogersville as my senior project,” said Thornton, a Marshfield graduate. “We knew we wanted to make it an annual event and I’m so grateful for my community… thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything!”
The truck and tractor pulls raised over $5,000 for the hospital and touched the hearts of many, including the mothers of two local children who are currently or have fought cancer.
“Jake has put on such an amazing event and has an even bigger heart,” said Adisyn Gray, mother of Hudson. “We had such a good time and it’s awesome to know that all of this money raised is going to help kids just like Hudson and Ava.”
“This is the most we have done in a weekend since Ava has been diagnosed and it felt so good to feel normal,” said Kaley Deckard, Ava’s mother. “We had a great time at the pulls.”
Announcing the pulls were Mike Totten and Stacy Atkison. The City of Marshfield allowed the pulls to take place at Jackson Park, further allowing the funds to go directly to St. Jude.
“Words can’t explain how much of an honor it is to make this happen,” Thornton added. “We put together one of the best pulls that’s happened in quite awhile. Very little downtime between hooks, no lineup confusions, incredible food, smiling faces, and most importantly, helping out St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Thank you to all the pullers and spectators for coming out and supporting us in this cause. Thank you to all the food and drink vendors for helping us keep everyone fed! You all did an incredible job!”
