The 17th annual Outdoor Sportsman Event, known as The Bowshoot, was carried out last Saturday, Aug. 26. After a week-long heat wave, people from all over Webster County gathered at the Marshfield High School and were shuttled to Camp Arrowhead to have some fun.
Many local churches used their vans and buses, with a special shoutout to Encounter Ministries, who also provided buses for the event. After checking in at the camp, the event had plenty of targets to shoot, activities to engage in, and prizes to win this year, ranging from kayaks to gift cards.
If the archers got tired or wanted something to eat, local churches had set up comfort stations tents along the way. Each tent offered refreshments, raffles, and conversations. Many archers appreciated what the tents had, as most were shooting targets bright and early.
According to Mitch Fisher, Director of the Webster County Baptist Association and event organizer, around 800 people participated in the Bow shoot, and at least 500 attended the event's church service.
"The weather was actually good for the day," said Fisher. "Thought it did start to rain on us as we were about to sing at the service, so that was an inopportune moment, but we were able to relocate."
"I want to thank all the churches in the Webster County Baptist Association," said Fisher. "Especially to the ones that had set up comfort stations and helped volunteer. I also want to thank all the people and businesses in our community who came out or helped support this event. The Outdoor Sportsman Event is the Association's largest event; we could not do this without everyone's support."
