Marshfield honors the fallen

Twice this week, the Marshfield Fire Protection District along with Marshfield Police and EMS personnel took the opportunity to pay tribute to one of many fallen military and police personnel as their processions made their way through Marshfield.

In joint efforts with Strafford Fire, they were able to raise our Nations Flag, high above I-44 for all to see as they passed through town. Conway volunteer firefighters did the same at exit 113. 

"Joined along with representatives from all of Marshfield’s Emergency Services to include, Marshfield Police Department, Cox EMS, Webster County Sheriffs Office, Webster County 911 Dispatch, and Missouri State Highway Patrol, We were able to give a warm welcome and appreciation from all of Marshfield and surrounding areas," the Marshfield Fire Protection Distict said in a release.

United States Marine Corps Sgt. James Lyons III, had Tragically lost his life on July 3 of this year. His remains were being transported by all individual states Patriot Guards from Arizona to Michigan where he can be at rest and honored from here on. The local service men and women honored him as he passed through Marshfield on I-44 Thursday, Aug. 29.

"It is our mission to ensure that no member of Emergency Services or Americas Military ever parish in vain," they added. "We were able to accomplish this task collectively as representatives of Marshfield to ensure we do our part to remember this fallen Marine. Hail to Thee and Semper Fi Marine."

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the flags flew again for fallen Osage Beach police officer Phylicia Carson, who lost her life in a traffic accident during a pursuit.

According to authorities, Officer Carson was attempting to stop a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. Highway 54, and after failing to yield the driver fled.

Sadly, minutes later after the short pursuit the Officer’s vehicle with Carson inside was found on the side of the road she was pronounced deceased.

She leaves behind her husband and six children. 23 year old Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer the suspect responsible and has been charged with aggravated fleeing a stop or detention of a motor vehicle, causing a death. He's being held with no bond.
