Marshfield resident John Hyde has been charged with five felonies, two felonies of first-degree statutory sodomy, and three class D felonies of sexual misconduct involving a child under 15 following an investigation by the Marshfield Police Department. more

Seed spittin' contest continues to draw crowd
Spectators and spitters alike gathered at the Turners Station Saturday to see who could spit the distance. The annual watermelon seed spittin’ contest has been a staple in Webster County for 15 years, and drew participants from Webster and Greene Counties this weekend while offering a change to win a medal, watermelon prizes and bragging rights. more

Lab grown meat approved for sale in the U.S.
Two companies, Upside Meat and Upside Foods, were recently approved by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration to produce and sell cell-cultivated chicken in the United States. Cell-cultivated meat uses real animal cells grown in labs to produce safe and sanitary meat without raising or slaughtering any animals.  more

City Park celebration set for Rogersville
The City of Rogersville’s Annual Independence Day Celebration starts on Saturday, June 24 at 3 p.m. at the City Park, 270 County Line Road. The parade will begin at 5 p.m. with floats lining up at 4 p.m. and the event is held light rain or shine. The theme for this year’s parade is “Honoring our Veterans.” more

Arrest made after pursuit ends in Marshfield
A Greene County pursuit resulted in the arrest of a Springfield man Sunday night in Marshfield. 20-year-old Tylinn Javon White led Greene County deputies on a chase to Webster County, where the suspect fled from his vehicle on foot about two miles west of Marshfield on Genetti Lane.  more

Summer school goes streaming
Marshfield Junior High School students got their hands wet and their feet muddy last week with a Thursday morning trip to North Park. Mrs. Jennifer Lashley and Mrs. Sandy Cottengim’s 7th and 8th grade summer school classes are working on terrariums as part of their curriculum. more

Gehrke pleads not guilty
On June 6, MaKoy Miller Gehrke pleaded not guilty before Judge Michael Hendrickson. Ten days later, on June 16, Gehrke was back in the courtroom with his attorney for a bond hearing. The bond was set at $100,000 with the conditions being that if posted, he is to be on house arrest with electric monitoring and to have no contact with any person under 18 years old. more

Logan Rogersville Fire Protection District continues to grow
The Logan Rogersville Fire Protection District has added several new members to the team this quarter. Firefighters Daniel Brown, Chris Halsell, Ryan Mihalochick, Alex White and Austin Ferguson all recently joined up to help with the 160 square miles that the District covers. Brian Rocker, Nathan Cleghorn, Kullen Boyce and Michael Metcalf all recieved their pins following a one year probationary period. more

First sighted in Arkansas water in 2008 it was only a matter of time the Northern Snakehead, an invasive species would make its way into Missouri waters. This one was caught on May 19 at Duck Creek Conservation Area. If you find this fish while out the Missouri Department of Conservation asks that you so the following: Kill the fish by severing the head or gutting it. Photograph the fish so the species can be positively identified. Report any sightings of the fish to MDC’s Southeast Regional Office at 573-290-5858. Contributed Photos

Chamber to host Marshfield Classic tournament
The Marshfield Chamber of Commerce will hold a golf tournament on Saturday, June 17th at Whispering Oaks Golf Course. The tournament will be a two-man scramble with over $12,000 in cash prizes. more
