The Southwest Missouri Council of Governments (SMCOG) will be hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, June 13, at 1 p.m. at the Marshfield Senior Center located at 427 W. Washington Street, Marshfield, MO.  The purpose of this meeting is to collect public input regarding identified transportation needs and strategies for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and those with low incomes. This is the final stage in the updating of the regional Public Transit Human Services Coordination Plan (PTHSCP). more

Last week the Webster County Library held its first-ever bookmark contest. After all the votes were tallied, the Library announced the winners on May 25. more
The Webster County Library is holding a bookmark contest which started May 15 and ends on May 24. The bookmarks will be displayed at both library branches in Marshfield and Rogersville, and voting is open to the public; all you need to do is ask the front desk for a ballot. The theme for the bookmarks is All Together and features artwork from local artists. The event was spearheaded by Library Clerk Erin Baker, who expressed her excitement for the contest “I love seeing all the creativity and how everyone interpreted the theme in their way.” more
On May 4, The Webster Electric Co-Op held its second quarterly round-up grant distribution meeting. For this quarter, Webster Electric gave $29,391.45 to local non-profits to aid in their various projects, from mowers, books, and resealing to scoreboards. The Marshfield Mail will feature each organization to learn more about them and what they will use their grants for. more
It is that time of year again as the City of Marshfield will be holding its annual city-wide Spring Clean. The event will start this week on May 11 through May 13, then again on May 18 through May 20. more

The Missouri Cherry Blossom Festival was jam-packed with many events, panels, and celebrities. Making its first appearance at the festival was the Memories of Elvis Presley-The King of Rock and Roll panel. What made this panel special was the guests it featured as most of them had worked with Elvis on a personal level. more
The Missouri Walk of Fame was started in 2006 by the Cherry Blossom Festival Committee. Every year they pick six famous Missourians who range from actors, authors, athletes, singers, and presidents, to David Leong, credited for inventing Springfield Style Cashew Chicken. Each inductee is recognized for their contribution to the greater good of Missouri. more

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – The State Capitol was taken over by high school students for a short time on April 18 while in town as part of Missouri Farm Bureau's (MOFB) Youth Leadership Day. Students came in from across the state to gather at the MOFB headquarters for a quick introduction by MOFB President Garrett Hawkins and orientation before being bused to the Capitol to meet with their legislators. While at the Capitol, some groups were invited into the side galleries by their legislators while the House was in session. Other students visited with their representatives and senators in the hallways outside the chambers. The students returned for lunch and an afternoon of learning. Most of them wore their blue FFA jackets and connected with former state FFA officer Janet Adkison, who spoke about growing up in Houston, Missouri, and a farm broadcasting career that led her to the national stage. Adkison is MOFB's new director of Public Affairs and previously anchored the RFD-TV show "Market Daily Report." She reported from the White House and RFD-TV headquarters in Nashville. Adkison told the students to "always keep the door open to possibilities they may not have considered. Usually, it is the unexpected that leads you to a better place", she added. more

The 18th annual Missouri Cherry Blossom Festival, as we know, focuses on celebrating and preserving American, state, and local history. A large part of that history is entertainment. Two panels at next week's festival will feature direct insight into the lives of two American entertainment icons, Walt Disney and Elvis Presley, in addition to its annual Nostalgia Fest Autograph Show at the Marshfield Community Center. more
Marshfield Seniors have been finishing their senior projects for the last few months. These projects have ranged from concerts, diaper drives, 5k runs, and many others focusing on improving themselves, the school, or the community. One senior has wrapped up her project with incredible success. more

Local Law Enforcement is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Region 7, which includes Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska for the national U Drive. Our next edition of the roundup grant takes us to the skies as we look at Honor Flight of the Ozarks, a hub or part of the Honor Flight Network. This non-profit organization is dedicated to sending veterans that served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, or Gulf War to Washington, D.C., where they will spend the day visiting the various monuments dedicated to those who have served our country at no cost to them. more
