Roundup resealing parking lots

Posted

We are starting our Webster Electric RoundUp grant series for the second-quarter recipients this week by visiting a non-profit organization that focuses on helping senior citizens.

For over 50 years, the Marshfield Senior Center has provided seniors with many services and weekly programs to help them stay active and independent as possible. These include assisting seniors in signing up for the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, Medicaid applications, and providing healthy meals in Marshfield and other seniors in the surrounding area.

SeniorAge AAA and Senior Center Lead Chris Parker explained, “We do home-delivered meals to seniors who are frail and homebound. We drive about 600 miles a month to deliver those meals. We go to Niangua, Elkland, Fair Grove Area, and everything north of James River.” All of this and more at no cost to the seniors. To help keep things going, Parker added, “We are a non-profit organization. So everything we do depends on fundraising and donations.”

The senior center has also been fortunate to receive grants, and it even helped them with the new building and parking lot built a few years ago. However, the parking lot is starting to show wear as time passes.

It was decided that the parking lot needed to be resealed. The Senior Center applied for a Webster Electric Grant and received $4,792. “We are having Coltrane Asphalt Maintenance reseal the lot and it should be completed sometime in the summer.” says Parker.

“We love the Roundup Grant,” Parker expressed. “We have used it several times in the past. We really appreciate it.” She continues, “If I could say one thing to people it would be to please sign up for the Operation Roundup. It is never more than 12 dollars a year because Webster Electric rounds up you electric bill to the next dollar. It is really a wonderful thing.”

The Marshfield Senior Center is at 427 W Washington St and can be reached at 417-859-3555.

Join us next week as we continue learning about the other Roundup Grant recipients.
