Cherry Blossom looks back on history

Posted

The 18th annual Missouri Cherry Blossom Festival, as we know, focuses on celebrating and preserving American, state, and local history. A large part of that history is entertainment. Two panels at next week's festival will feature direct insight into the lives of two American entertainment icons, Walt Disney and Elvis Presley, in addition to its annual Nostalgia Fest Autograph Show at the Marshfield Community Center.

The first of these panels is "Disney at 100". This panel will include various talents that have previously worked with Disney. Joseph Yakovetic, Disney Land Gallery featured artist, will moderate the discussion. Panelists include Sharon Baird, an original Mouseketeer; Beverly Washburn, an actress best known for Old Yeller, Margaret Kerry, the model for Tinker Bell; and Mimi Gibson, the voice of Lucky in Disney's Original Animated film 101 Dalmatians. The panel will start at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Marshfield Assembly of God.

That same day the Marshfield Assembly of God will also be the place for the "Memories of Elvis Presley-The King of Rock and Roll" panel, which will include individuals who knew and worked with the musical icon. The panelists include the author of "Destined to Die Young" Sally A. Hoedel, Ron Strauss pilot for Elvis, Private Nurse Tish Henley Kirk, Actress Charlotte Stewart, who worked with him in the film Speedway, and Kissin' Cousins costar Cynthia Pepper. Richard LaMotte will moderate the panel, which will take place at 5:45 p.m.

Another event that will happen that same day is the "WWII Patriot Breakfest" hosted at Son-Rise Christian Church at 9 a.m. The breakfast will include interviews with WWII veterans, including VIP Louis Graziano, the last living witness o the Geman surrender. Tickets are on sale for the event and cost $25.
