April 18, 2023, will hold a significant moment in Logan-Rogersville baseball history. On that day, the Wildcats took on the Hollister Tigers at the new L-R field. This game would see some impressive pitches from the Wildcats, five home runs, three from Noah Carrow, one from Curry Sutherland, and one from Jackson Rousey. After six innings, the Wildcats were victorious against the Tigers with a final score of 11-1.
"Obviously, we hit the ball well against Hollister, and our ace Noah Carrow had a great day at the plate with three home runs. He's been struggling a little, so it was nice to see him return to being the hitter we know he is. 7 RBIs! We had five home runs, and all were hit well. Brody McNeil didn't have his best stuff, but he gutted out four strong innings for us, and Curry came in to slam the door. With our pitching staff, if we hit it that well, we will always be tough to beat. It was an important district and conference win, so we are always happy to get those." Head Coach for the Wildcats, Casey Ledl, says after reflection on the game.
Not only was it the Wildcats' twelfth win this season, but it was also Coach Ladl's 200 career win. After the game, a special presentation and celebration were held to honor this historic win. In addition, the game was broadcasted via Facebook Live by Rogersville's sports talk show, The Chain Gang, which reviewed Coach Ledi's career.
After graduating from Logan-Rogersville, Ledi returned as their head baseball coach at the school. Since leading the team, he has averaged winning 20 games per season, four district championships, and has made it to the final four three times. In 2013 and 2014, the team reached third place, and in 2022, it to second place. He also has six conference titles in the ten years he has led the Wildcats and many more accomplishments.
"It wasn't supposed to be broadcasted out on my 200th win. So I can thank Jon Pope and Ryan White from The Chain Gang for that. But they are such great supporters of our program and of me, my assistants, and our kids, so I'll forgive them." Ledi chuckled. "It was a personal goal for me-I don't have many things other than trying to win a state championship. My assistant coaches put everything together with our administration, so I can't thank them enough. It was a complete surprise, and I don't get fooled too much anymore! But it was nice to get to that milestone."
He continues, "Seeing our players and community excited about it was fun and made for a great night. We had ex-players, ex-assistant coaches, and friends/family that showed up, providing quite the crowd! So many players, coaches, and community members have been instrumental in making our program what it is, so they deserve this every bit as much, if not more, than I do. I couldn't ask for a better place to be. To have played here with so many people and now having coached here for ten years, I am very protective of how awesome L-R is. I know I'm pretty biased, spending most of my life here, but I think this community is so special. Seeing my wife, daughter, and sons wearing L-R jerseys and participating in L-R sports/activities now is just absolutely amazing. I couldn't be happier teaching my government classes and coaching the sport that I love."
