L-R wins in baseball battle for Webster County

On a warm, pleasant April 13 afternoon, the Marshfield Blue Jays baseball team visited the Logan-Rogersville Wildcats and held their battle for Webster County. Both teams would step up to the plate and take their best swings and pitches. After four innings of incredible plays, including a no-hitter from Wildcat Senior Brody McNiel, the L-R Wildcats were victorious against the Marshfield Bluejays with a final score of 10-0.

"I thought yesterday was one of our most complete games regarding pitching, defense, and offense." Head Coach for L-R baseball Casey Ledi recalled. "We've been stellar with our three pitchers on the mound. So when our pitching is good, we have a good chance to win most of the time." Ledi then thought about the season so far. "As a coach, I'm always going to think more about the two games we lost than the eleven we have won. But with our schedule, I am pretty ecstatic. Our kids are playing better and better every time. So our goal will be to play our absolute best when it comes time to play at districts."

When thinking back on the game, Marshfield baseball Head Coach William Tate expressed, "Credit to Rogersville, they swung the bat well, and it showed. We thought our pitchers executed some good pitches, and they still found a way to get a bat on it. We had some poor at-bats early on, and when facing an arm like L-R's Brody McNeil, you have to be more competitive than we were." Tate continued, "Our Freshman, Carter James had a great at-bat and broke up the no-hitter from McNeil. I was happy to see Carter do that because he's been swinging it well lately so to see him have a great at-bat like that was a good takeaway from the game." When asked how he feels about the rest of the season, Tate responded, "As far as the season goes we are playing some good baseball but have to find consistency. We have yet to put a solid game together in all four phases (hitting, pitching, fielding, and base running). We have 16 games left so we are about halfway through the season there is a lot of opportunities left for us to get better and get hot come district time."
