The Logan-Rogersville Wildcats (27-3) clawed their way to the final four following two wins in tournament play last week. On Tuesday, March 5, the ‘Cats defeated Seneca in the first round with a score of 64-51. This set them up to play Father Tolton Regional Catholic in Rogersville on Saturday, March 9, where they came out on top, 60-53.
The Wildcats led the first half with a 12-point lead and though Tolton Catholic fought to stay in the game, L-R played solid defense to keep the lead. Free throw’s could have swayed the score, but the ‘Cats went 10-14 in the last quarter from the line. Freshman Chase Branham tallied a game-high 25 points.
Senior Scott Metz scored for two with just over two minutes left in the game, putting the Wildcats up 52-47. Metz tallied a total of 18 points for the ‘Cats and made 10 of 11 free throws.
Head Coach John Schaefer led Logan-Rogersville to the final four in 2019 and is excited to see what this year’s squad does with the opportunity. This run marks the 7th final four appearance for the school and will be the second appearance for Schaefer. The program has one state championship in its history, in 1982.
The Wildcats will face John Burroughs at 10 a.m. March 15 in Mizzou Arena. Tickets must be purchased through MSHSAA.org.
