The season of giving

Posted

The third annual Adopt-An-Angel program has finished with success and many senior citizens getting their Christmas wishes granted.

The program is funded thanks to donations from the community and efforts of the Fairgrove 4-H, Jr Art Club, and the fourth graders at Shook Elementary, who adopted, shopped, wrapped, and delivered gifts to the senior residents.

A total of 215 residents living at Marshfield Care, Marshfield Place, Webco Manor, and Strafford Care received gifts.

A local women's ministry heads the Adopt-An-Angel program, Chit-Chat-n-Chocolate Women's Ministry, not only delivered the gifts but also brought snacks and drinks to each staff breakroom for the four facilities. While visiting each location, the fourth-grade students passed out Christmas cards they had made and sang carols.

"We did see some tears," said Christy Davenport, Founder of Chit-Chat-n-Chocolate Women's Ministry. "Both from the residents and the ones passing out cards/gifts. All in all, it's a beautiful experience for all ages. The program is great way to reach the kids about giving back to our community, instead of only receiving."
