Sixtieth Underwood-Anderson Reunion

Posted

Early in 1964, two cousins, Lueretha (Underwood) Robertson, daughter of V. O. Underwood, and Glen Anderson, son of Audrey (Underwood) Anderson, in the Davenport-Muscatine areas of Iowa discussed getting their related families together for a reunion. V. O. and Audrey were two of 11 children born to Ernest Hamilton and Nancy (Little) Underwood.

As a result of those discussions, the first combined reunion was held in October of 1964 at Wild Cat Den Park in Muscatine, Iowa. In 1968, the reunion was moved to Seymour Park, and in 1973, to Conway City Park where it has been held on the Sunday before Labor Day since that time.

This year's MC was Marcus Harper Junior. Paul Jr. Underwood asked for God's blessing on the food and the day.

Following the bountiful meal, names were drawn for the donated prizes. Awards were given to the oldest Underwood present-Paul Jr Underwood, oldest Anderson- Charles Anderson, youngest present- two-year-old son of Ernie Anderson, the one traveling the most miles-Tina (Underwood) Stubblefield, the couple married the longest-Paul Jr and Edith Underwood and the one with the most biological descendants present-Harvey Underwood.

Among those attending were: From lowa- Mar Anderson, Ernie Anderson, his wife and son of Davenport. From Arkansas-Charles and Rose Anderson of Omaha. From Oklahoma- Paul Jr. and Edith Underwood, Tina and Aqua Stubblefield of Healdton. From Missouri- Steve and Kathy Underwood of Washington, Karon and Raymond Root and son of Lebanon, Lola Belle Underwood of Strafford, Marie Whisnant, Kelsey Haworth and Laura Nall Deloch of Clever, Alice Blanchard and Elizabeth of Nixa, Harvey Underwood, Eula Mae Privett, Mark and Laura Harper, Dakota, Marcus Jr and Stanley Harper, Kendra Johnson, and Dale and Linda Underwood all of Seymour, Paula Ankrom, Ernest and Lois Underwood, Ocean Stubblefield, Tommy, Addie Underwood and Lea, Lynn and Terri Underwood of Marshfield and Jessie Underwood, Clarissa North and Stephen Underwood.

We missed those who were unable to attend. Prayers for Tom Little, who is having a serious health issue. A big thanks to all who work behind the scenes to help the gathering go more smoothly. Next year's reunion is planned back at the Conway City Park on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, with Kendra Johnson as MC. We are pleased that the younger generation is becoming more involved.
