On Thursday, Oct. 19, the nonprofit organization Safe Harbor officially opened its thrift store to the public with a beautiful outcome.
“Our Grand Opening was a great success, thanks to all the wonderful people who came out to support us,” expressed Safe Harbor Director DeAnne Rader.
The day was filled with popcorn, apple cider, and door prizes. The store is at 202 S. Crittenden Street in Marshfield, formerly the space occupied by Retro Zone. It will not only be a thrifty place for people looking for a good deal but also for clients of Safe Harbor who are taking steps towards rebuilding their lives.
“We are excited to have a store that will serve our community and benefit our clients, all while helping us raise money to build a shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault,” said Rader.
As mentioned, all proceeds from the store will go towards Safe Harbor’s goal of setting up a victim’s shelter. Another way folks can help Safe Harbor is by simply volunteering.
“Our store is currently open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We need volunteers for all days the store is open,” explained Rader. “So if you have a few hours Wednesday through Saturday, we can use you. No experience is required as we will train you!”
The Safe Harbor thrift store is also accepting donation items for the store. They ask that the donated items be clean gently used, and do not accept mattresses.
