Next year, the highway is going to get a lot safer. Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announced in a press release that 25 state troopers will graduate from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023. Among the graduates is Seymour native Trooper Chad K. Johnson.

The graduation ceremony will occur at 10 a.m. in the Academy’s gymnasium at 1510 East Elm Street, Jefferson City. It will also be live-streamed via the Highway Patrol’s Facebook page. Trooper Johnson is part of the 118th Recruit Class, which started at the Academy on Jul. 3, 2023. After graduation, the new troopers will report to their assigned counties after the new year reigns in. For Trooper Johnson he will be patrolling Texas and Wright County.

The graduation ceremony will include speeches from Mr. John Whetsel, retired Sheriff of Oklahoma County, OK, and retired Chief of Police of Choctaw, OK, Colonel Eric T. Olson, and Mike Kehoe, Missouri’s Lieutenant Governor, who will provide the keynote address. Also at the ceremony will be The Honorable Robin Ransom, from the Missouri Supreme Court, who will administer the Oath of Office to the new troopers.

Congratulations to Trooper Johnson and the rest of the 118th Recruit Class.
