Marshfield soccer season ends

Posted

The Marshfield girls' soccer season has come to a close. On May 13, the Bluejays entered the Class 2 Districts 5 Championship Tournament and took on Cassville. Freshman Brianna Hanson and Junior Calli Watson would score the game-winning points, beating Cassville with a final score of 2-0 and advancing the Jays to the next round.

On May 16, the Bluejays entered the Logan-Rogersville Stadium to take on Clinton. The winner of this match would move on to the championship round and take on the L-R Wildcats. Despite the Jays' best effort, Watson scored the only goal for the team, and the Bluejays would fall to Clinton. The final score was 4-1.

"I'm upset by the end but proud of the young ladies and how they responded in the second half of the district semi-final. We finished with a 17-6 record, a third-place finish in the Big 8 conference," told Head Coach Paul Lewis.

When thinking about the team's progress this season, Lewis expressed, "Our girls won their tournament, the Marshfield Invitational, for the third year in a row. We only lost two starters off of this year's team, so the core of our team is returning next year. I'm very proud of these young ladies and all that they have accomplished."

He concluded his thoughts by highlighting some key players.

"Junior Calli Watson ended the season with a total of 71 goals, quite the accomplishment at any level. She has a career total of 173! And she is only a Junior. She holds about every scoring record here at Marshfield. Senior Riley Manary and Shalie Porter were a big part of this program and its growth. They both were three-year starters and will be hard to replace."
