The Marshfield Fire Protection District has announced its annual Open House on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Fire Station 1 on 521 S. Prairie Lane starting at 6:30 p.m.
The free open house will allow citizens to meet Sparky, the dog, and members of the Marshfield firefighter team. Attendees will tour the fire trucks, and four students from Hubble and Webster Elementary will get the opportunity to ride in one.
This year will also allow people to check out and participate in the station's Live Smokehouse.
The Smokehouse will be filled with theatrical, non-toxic smoke, allowing everyone to learn what to do in those situations. It includes fire extinguisher demonstrations and getting to experience water flow from a fire engine.
Parking for the event will be at Marshfield Assembly of God Church, 1538 W Washington St. Refreshments and children's prizes will be provided. Kids are reminded to bring their coloring pages to submit for a contest where the winning class will receive a pizza party.
Kids received the coloring pages last week when the Fire Protection District visited both schools and the Early Learning Center for presentations on fire safety. During the presentations, the ELC students got to tour one fire truck and all its equipment.
Marshfield schools were just some of the ones getting fire education last week. Members of the Niangua Fire Protection District also visited the local elementary school, educating the Niangua Cardinals on fire safety. The department also later held an open house for the public.
