Lebanon woman faces theft felonies

Posted

Brandy L. Smith, a Lebanon citizen, faces two counts of Stealing - $750 Or More, a Class D felony, following an investigation from the Marshfield Police Department.

According to the probable cause statement from the MPD on Jan. 7, 2022, a vehicle was spotted backing up to a storage facility, where two individuals stepped out, broke the locks, and stole roughly $2000 of various tools and other items from three units. The next day, Jan. 8, a Marshfield officer spotted a vehicle matching the one seen at the theft and approached. The officer read both passengers their Miranda rights and asked questions. The driver refused to speak, but the passenger Smith herself, claimed she loaded the vehicle to someone else yesterday. After questioning, the officer asked to search the vehicle, to which Smith denied consent.

Marshfield officers then contacted the Laclede County Sheriff’s Office for assistance on the case. A Laclede Officer visited the home of Smith and spoke to her husband. Once inside, the officer spotted in plain sight several items and tools. The husband admitted Smith came home late last night with everything and placed them in the home.

According to Missouri Case Net, Smith has a history and is currently on a five-year supervised probation for several charges in Laclede County, including two Class D felonies for stealing $750 Or More, Receiving Stolen Property, and a Class E felony for Possession of Burglary tools.

Smith is expected to appear in court before Judge Justin Evans on June 13. If convicted, Smith could face one to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, a special one-year term in county jail, a fine up to $10,000, or a combination of both for each charge.
