Lady Wildcats fall short in Class 2 State Tournament

Posted

Logan-Rogersville’s Lady Wildcats lost to the Pleasant Hill Chicks at the Class 2 State Tournament Sectionals on Saturday, May 27th. The Lady Wildcats (19-7) hosted the Chicks (16-6) at their Wildcat Stadium in Rogersville with kick-off starting the game at 2 P.M.

"Getting to the quarterfinals is great and is something that doesn't happen often.  This LR girls soccer team had an outstanding season and also played well during the district tournament.," said Head Coach Brett Wubbena. "I believe that over the last couple years we have been building confidence in the work that we have done all season and even during the off season. "

The loss follows the Lady Wildcat’s win over the Clinton Cardinals for the Girls Soccer Class 2 District 5 Tournament on May 17, where the Lady Wildcats shut out their opponents 2-0, making the Rogersville squad back to back district champs.

"Each year we are moving closer toward our goal of playing in the final four.  This year we will lose some team leaders to graduation, but we still bring back a solid, young, team," Wubbena added.

Despite great effort and leadership from record-setting Wildcat upperclassmen Nikki and Kita Wood, along with Aisley James, the Rogersville squad fell short of a win by two goals, ending their state run at sectionals. Nikki Wood, a senior forward, was an All-State for Class 2 last year, with her sister Kita making all-district honors.
