Jaywalking drug bust

Posted

Seymour resident Vincent Erickson has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class D Felony, following a routine traffic stop.

During the late hours of Oct. 1, Seymour Officer Watson noticed Erickson cross a road with no crosswalk indication. Considering this ordinance violation and recent incidents of theft in the area, Officer Watson approached Erickson. During questioning, Erickson appeared nervous and inconsistent in his responses. Authorities then detained Erickson. While searching Erickson, authorities found small bags containing various pills and methamphetamine.

The range of punishment for a Class D felony includes one to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, one year in county jail, a fine up to $10,000, or a mix of jail time and fine. Erickson had a bond reduction hearing with Judge Chuck Replogle on Oct. 18.
