The Webster County Historical Society is set to provide a treat to those seeking a lesson in local history this Halloween season. Buried Treasures will take place Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Marshfield Cemetery.
Volunteers from the Webster County Historical Society will host guided tours at 627 S White Oak Rd, where groups will learn about important individuals who helped shape Marshfield.
The admission price is $5 for ages eight and above, with children aged seven and under getting in for free. Proceeds from the sales will go towards helping keep the lights on at the Webster County Museum.
The tours last roughly 45 minutes to an hour, with runtimes at 6:15 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:45 p.m., and 8:30 p.m., weather permitting.
“We will have people there guiding on where to park,” explained Linda Dickinson of the Historical Society. “After paying admission and groups have gathered, the tours will begin. The tours will consist of stations, each lasting about 10 minutes, with Historical Society volunteers as guides, and people will learn about important members, including individuals like Sam Shelton, a representative from Marshfield.”
The paths will have solar lamps lighting them. Still, everyone attending is encouraged to bring flashlights and dress accordingly, or they can wear costumes if desired. There are no bathrooms, but the tour will only be ¾ of a mile.
Dickinson reminds everyone that the event is taking place in a cemetery and to respect those who have passed on while visiting.
“Remember that these gravesites belong to someone that was loved, and so everybody that goes on the tour will be staying on the sidewalk,” said Dickinson. “There will be no walking or wandering among the gravesites.”
All attendees will also receive a gift bag after each tour ends.
“We wanted to offer something different for families to do for Halloween,” said Dickinson. “I’m excited about the event, and I think it will be fun for everyone.”
