Blue Jays speech team soars at Liberty Invitation

Ian Thompson and Mya Doty brought home fifth place in Duo Interpretation at the Liberty Invitational on January 13 and 14. The team competed against 48 other schools, with categories for competition having competitors upwards of 100 in some categories.

In team tradition they stopped at the Oseola Cheese Factory to take a group photo-unfortunately Scottie the Mouse, whom they usually pose with, was tied up so the team opted for the sign board alternative.

The Marshfield Blue Jays Speech and Debate team headed to the Liberty Invitational January 13 and 14 to compete in the 48 school event. The following students were selected to compete:

Jeremiah Cardoza-Public Forum Debate

Mya Doty-Public Forum Debate and Duo Interpretation

Kaylee Edelman- Original Oratory

Bryna Norman-Program of Oral Interpretation and Original Oratory

Ian Thompson- Duo Interpretation

Lou Westfall- Orignial Oratory

“Every event was packed with entries,” shared Greg Holtschneider (also known as “H”) the Speech and Debate team coach. “It ranged from 65 to 100 (entries) in some categories.”

Mya Doty, Ian Thompson, Kaylee Edelman and Bryna Norman all advanced to the semi finals with Ian Thompson and Mya Doty making it to finals and placing with overall.
