In continuing to get to know various community members, the Marshfield Mail visited Marshfield Early Learning Center and Hubble Principal Mallory Robertson.

Q: Do you have any pets?

R: We do. We got a new puppy named Otis. We also have a cat named Floyd.

Q: Do you have a family?

R: I have two kids, a preschooler, and a second grader, and my husband—a whole lovely house.

Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?

R: I love traveling to Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. I went there for my senior trip and went back every summer until we had kids. But now we are picking up the tradition with our kids.

Q: What TV shows are you currently watching?

R: My go-to's are The Office and Parks and Recreation.

Q: Do you have any hidden talents?

R: I can remember names, but nothing is ordinary.

Q: What led you to a career in education?

R: I love kids.

Q: What do you like about working in the school?

R: I love seeing the lightbulb moment when kids get it. In this role as an administrator, I get to see that in teachers whenever we start talking about teaching and learning and talking about new strategies, they have those aha moments too in their education, so that is cool to me and then be able to see their aha moment play out in the classroom, It is fantastic and a real perk of this role as well.

Q: Do you have any advice for the younger generation?

R: My advice would be to love one another. Show grace and compassion in all situations, and consistently seek to understand before you want your voice to be heard.

Q: Do you have any retirement plans or a bucket list?

R: In my first year of retirement, I will do nothing. I'm going to experience every season with no enormous responsibilities. I want to feel fall. I want to feel Thanksgiving and Christmas without the stress of a full-time school job. After that, I want to travel. I'm not very adventurous, but I want to visit every lovely beach.

Q: Do you have a favorite book or genre?

R: I do like a good mystery. I also like a romance with a storyline, not just a gushy romance.

Q: What is the best part of your day?

R: I like the mornings when the kids come in, and I get to say "Good Morning" and see their faces and greet the teachers. I also like sending the kids off at the end of the day. I love being in the classroom and seeing kids learn and teachers in their element.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

R: Because we have two young kids, we don't travel a lot, so it is mostly staying at home playing board games. We also go to the pool in the summer and spend a lot of time outside. We love riding bikes and going for walks. My kids also love to rollerblade.

Q: What is the one thing you are proud of professionally and personally?

R: Professionally, I'm proud of everyone in these buildings. I'm proud of their growth mindset and their progress over the last five years. Their attitudes are so positive. Personally, I'm proud of my kids. I'm proud of my husband and me raising two decent kids who are kind and love the Lord, and that is all you can hope for as a parent.

Q: What is the one thing you can't live without?

R: Coffee, my friends, and family.

Q: What is your favorite quote?

R: "All our dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them" - Walt Disney
