Freshman Sophia Nixon broke two school records Saturday as the Logan-Rogersville High School girls soccer team outmatched the Monett Lady Cubs, 10-0, in district play.

“Nixon has been good for us all year,” Rogersville coach Brett Wubbena said. “We had an opportunity for her to break our all-season goals record and in doing that she broke the goals in a game record.”

With eight minutes left in the game, Nixon scored her sixth goal of the game to give her 27 goals this season.

"It feels great,” Nixon said. “I’m lucky to have my team feed the ball to me and I’m proud of my team to help me do it.”

The Lady Cats led 3-0 at halftime and scored three goals early on in the second half to take a 6-0 lead with 24 minutes left. Nixon scored three more goals and sophomore Taylor Overstreet added a goal to give Rogersville the 10-0 shutout.

“I couldn’t take Nixon out. We had to give her the chance and she did it,” Wubbena said. “Monett played hard. They played us hard and we stepped up and were able to wear them down.”

After watching the Springfield Catholic Lady Irish shutout Aurora before their game, the Lady Cats had a lot of excitement built up for their match against Monett.

“We were really excited going into the game,” senior Lexi Christopher said. “Confidence is probably the most important thing heading into the match against Springfield Catholic. They beat us earlier in the season, but we’ve come a long way since then.”

Rogersville was slated to face the Lady Irish in the district championship game Tuesday night at Springfield Catholic.

“We’ve been preparing all season to get this far and we’re going to try our hardest,” Nixon said. “Hopefully, we can come out on top in the championship.”
