Fordland High School’s Student Council is presenting a mock crash, starting at noon Friday, April 20, in the northwest high school parking lot.

This is just a staged accident made to look real for the students, so they can understand the dangers of drinking and driving, along with distracted driving. Following the mock accident, there will be a presentation in the gym with guest speakers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Students will also have a chance to enter a drawing to win an Andy’s Frozen Custard gift card when they fill out a safe and sober pledge card during the event. According to Becky Haynes, one of the teachers at Fordland High School, there was a mock accident done at the school about 10 years ago. Her leadership class had the idea to bring it back to Fordland.

“My leadership class decided they wanted to do a mock crash,” said Haynes. “Since it has been so long since one has been done at Fordland, they thought it would be a good idea. We are having it the day before prom, so hopefully it will be a help.”

For more information about the mock accident, contact Haynes at 417-767-4555 or Trista Lucas with the Southern Webster County Fire Protection District at 417-840-5819.
