Wild West Day takes Fordland back in time

Posted

Wild West Day will take place Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Fordland Park from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. This family friendly, free admission event is sponsored by the Fordland Community Betterment Association.

Wild West Day was first celebrated in 2016 after Bonnie and Robert Palmer created the event. The couple talked about organizing an event like this for years and decided 7 years ago to go for it. Since then it’s continued to be a success within the community.

The Wild West Day event will feature a variety of games for kids… some free, some with a small fee. There will also be food vendors, live music, raffles, free prizes with drawings throughout the day, Wild West enactments and skits, a petting zoo and more. There will also be live music from the Joe Wright Band and Crooked River Posse from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Past years have also featured parades through Main Street featuring western-themed wagons and participants dressed in western attire. Food and craft vendors often give demonstrations on their specialties. In the past, Janet Caudillo spoke about the history of clothing and the importance of knowing that history.

“If we do not know where we came from, we will have no idea where we are going,” said Caudillo at the inaugural Wild West Day. “Historically, will we ever have to go back to any of this? Probably not, but we ought to know what our forefathers did to maintain a life. This was part of it.”

Admission and parking at the event is free.
