Webster County photo contest offers $100 prize

Posted

The Webster County Clerk’s office is hosting its second annual photo contest to engage the community and encourage them to share images that reflect the culture of Webster County.

“This contest has several purposes. One, we wanted to draw in public interest and build community pride about Webster County,” said Clerk Stan Whitehurst. “We also wanted to obtain some artwork that we could use for different things we do throughout the year, such as our financial statement publication or for our websites. Again, we just felt that the public could best demonstrate in photos what Webster County is and what it means to live here.”

There are two categories for the contest: public and employee submissions. The only rules are that the photos must be taken in Webster County and depict county character and culture. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. All submissions can be submitted by email to clerk@webstercountymo.gov.

“We were very pleased with the participation last year and we’re hoping to see even more submissions this year,” he added. “The prize is $100 for the winners of each category.”

When submitting a photo, participants must include their name, phone number, email address and location the photo was taken.

Last year’s contest was judged by the Associate Judges, which keeps the contest fair since there is an employee category. There were 58 total submissions from the public and 30 from employees. By submitting a photo, you affirm that you have permission to photograph any child or person in your photo. You also retain the rights to your work, while granting Webster County the unrestricted, royalty-free, perpetual right to use, reproduce, communicate, modify and display the photos for any purpose without fees or compensation, and without further notification or permission.

Winners of the contest will be announced on the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 24 by phone or email.
