Top five Summer Games Fest announcements

Posted

Video games are a form of art. They can tell amazing stories that stick with you for years, and you actively get to be a part of it. Video Games are just one of the many forms of entertainment seeking to get attention from the general public. To help bring awareness, many companies have hosted conventions and events to give people a look at upcoming video games.

Such was the case last weekend with 2023's Summer Games Fest. The festival was full of promising trailers, teasers, and interviews, all geared to hype up the audience for the rest of this year and what to look forward to in the next. I could go on and on about all the announcements, but this is not a gaming paper, and I have only so much space. So let me go over my list of what got me excited.

1. Spider-Man 2

I'm not talking about the movies; I'm talking about the sequel to Insomniac's Spider-Man, released in 2019. The first game was incredible, from how you swing around the city to the music, characters, and story. The same is true for its spin-off, which featured Miles Morales made popular thanks to Into the Spiderverse. The sequel promises more with its action and story, not to mention we will see more villains such as Kraven the Hunter and Venom. The game is scheduled to be released on Oct. 20 for the PlayStation 5 (PS5 is what the kids call it. I have your back, parents)

2. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Back in 2020, Square Enix released FF 7 Remake, the first part of a complete remake of the original game released in 1997. The remakes offer a graphical update and update the story and combat. Rebirth shows us it will pick up exactly where we left off from Remake and teases the appearance of the one-winged angel himself: Sephiroth. FF7 Rebirth is set to come out in early 2024.

3. Autobots, Roll Out!

Fortnite is a global success and the talk of most school playgrounds or lunch rooms. Something that might interest parents a bit more is its latest announcement for Season 3, called Fortnite Wilds. The trailer shows off a new place for players to run around and a new character they can play: the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime. The new season was released on Fortnite on May 9.

4. Lies of P

Have you ever watched or read Pinocchio and thought, "I wish it was darker" Well, for those few, your wish is granted as Lies of P is coming Sept. 19 to PC, Xbox, PS4, and PS5. The game will be a roguelike action meaning prepare to die ... a lot. If you like Darksouls, Bloodborne, or those types of games, this is one to check out.

5. Presenting Nic Cage!

You read that correctly, the famous actor is coming to the popular survival game Dead by Daylight. The game in the past has featured favorite horror icons such as Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Ghostface. Not much is known if Cage will be a survivor or a killer in-game. One thing is for sure it is going to be interesting. You can find when the Nic Cage Chapter releases on July 25.

And that is my list; as I said, there is way more I could mention, but these were just a few that stood out. Thank you for reading, and try to have a good rest of your shift.
