Q&A: Dr. Shawn Randles

In this week's edition of Q&A, we look to the Superintendent of Logan-Rogersville, Dr. Shawn Randles. Who announced after 31 years in education that he would be retiring this year. But, as he prepares to spend more time with his wife of 24 years, Alana, a teacher, and their two children, ages 23 and 17, we want to look at the man outside the desk.

What is the most challenging part of your job? Not being a Progressive commercials parent. Giving unsolicited advice, correcting people, pointing out the obvious, etc.

What is your favorite part of your job? The students and staff. The parents and community. I love LR!

What did you want to be when you grew up? An orthopedic surgeon.

Do you have any pets? Yes, we have three rescued dogs. Two from Havaheart Rescue and one from the Humane Society. Charlie, Chandler, and Star.

What is the most fantastic place you've ever been to? Phantom Ranch.

Do you have any plans for the summer? Retire and start a second career...anyone hiring?

Do you have any hobbies? Not for the past 31 years, but I intend to.

What is something you love about the city you live in? It's only 12 miles from Cesar's Old Mexico... It's my happy place. 

What is something most people don't know about you? I have catlike reflexes.

What is your favorite song? Friendship by Chris Stapleton.

What is on your bucket list? A Class B RV and a three-year vacation.

What is your life motto or favorite quote? Have fun, play hard!

Where do you get your inspiration? Out of the mouths of babes.
