“Your’e killin’ me, Smalls!” echoed in theaters over 29 years ago this April and is making its way into Marshfield’s Rotary Park on May 6. The Sandlot, a ‘90s cult classic film, will be accompanied by yard games and ball park treats to celebrate the park’s newest features: new concession stand and family style restroom.
“The movie in the park is going to coincide with the grand opening of our new concession stand and family style restrooms in Rotary Park. The improvements were made possible through a partnership with Marshfield Rotary Club and Marshfield High School Building Trades Program. ” explained Dianna Schuman, Activities Coordinator. ”The movie will play at sundown. Prior to that, we're going to open the concession stand and have yard games available. We've got some really cool stuff; corn hole, giant Jenga, a ring toss, a giant soccer ball, kickball and glow in the dark lawn darts.”
The festivities will take place on Shook Field at Rotary Park. Admission for the film is free to the public. Games and concessions will be open at 7 p.m. with the film scheduled to start at sundown. Foods available to purchase will include hot dogs, burgers, popcorn, candy, snacks and drinks. The Parks Board recommends attendees bring a lawn chair to enjoy the festivities in.
The nostalgic scene will also unofficially kick off summer for the Parks Board, offering registration for a number of summer programs for the city: swim team, water aerobics, pool season passes and more. Residents are also welcome to sign up online.
