Marshfield Saddle Club sees continued community involvement

Posted

After the revival of the Marshfield Saddle Club last year, the group continues to grow while regularly hosting events. The Fun Show Saturday, July 8 saw a great crowd despite the event taking place over a busy weekend following the Independece Day holiday.

Equestrian lovers have worked hard to give the club a proper comeback by hosting swap meets, fun shows, open ride nights and more at their arena located at 134 Commerce Road, 1/8 mile from the corner of A Highway and Commerce Road.

The Club focuses on offering Marshfield and surrounding communities a safe, fun and family-oriented place to ride, and to promote safe and healthy horsemanship.

“We will continue to work hard with the assistance of our community to bring our arena and facility back to life here in Webster County,” said President T.J. Jones, “We offer family and individual memberships and we’re focusing on bringing community events and activities as well as our equine events… It’s been a blast being a part of it.”

Open ride nights are hosted on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month along with a monthly swap meet in the spring and early summer. Fun Shows started back up in May with focus on horsemanship, showmanship, barrels, and stick pony races for the kids in attendance. Each winner is recognized with ribbons at the end of each show.

“We also have gymkhana jackpot events at the end of the fun shows as well,” Jones added. “This club has been here in Webster County for 65 years. It did take a hiatus for a while but we’re back and stronger than ever with a great board of directors.”

The Club is run by Jones, Vice President Travis Hampton, Secretary Christina Sash, Treasurer James Townlain, and Board of Directors Dymisha Cappel, June Mathis, Pam and Wayne Cummings, Kevin Knight and Ocean Atwell.

The group looks forward to several events coming up this fall, which the Mail will have information on as it becomes available.

“Our play days are coming up and we have those every month as well,” Jones said. “The FFA Booster Club will be back in October with another tractor pull and we’re trying to get involved with the 4-H Club as well. We’re trying to get involved in the ag community and bring more kids in… We really want to build this club up for the kids in our community.”

Upcoming scheduled events include a Saddle Club meeting at 7 p.m. July 20 and a Trail Ride at the Bolivar Landing at 9 a.m. July 22.

Set Fun Show dates include Aug. 5 with a rain date of Aug. 12, Sept. 2 with a rain date of Sept. 9, and Oct. 7 with a rain date of Halloween. Entry fees are $2 p4er class for members, $4 for non-members and $5 for jackpot classes. All prices are per horse/rider and can only be made with cash or local checks.

Spectators are welcome for all events and concessions are available on the grounds.
