Making The Cut

“Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your hair!” Coming soon is the live-action play The True Story … Rapunzel.
A play from a fairy tale and it perhaps has one of the best backdrops one could ask for; a castle, a rather charming castle.
Welcome to Chateau Charmant, a place located just outside of Fordland. For many, this place feels like something you would only see in your dreams. That is thanks to the hard work and love of Chateau Charmant’s owners, the Palmer family, Robert, Bonnie, and their daughter Brittney.
In 2003, the Palmers moved from southern California to Fordland. Robert gave Bonnie a drawing of a castle with the words “I want to build you a castle” on it. Bonnie objected to the idea. After several objections, Bonnie finally gave in and they began building what they claim is the world's largest castle. This labor of love is now the highlight of many events, including weddings, masquerades, and dinners.
The Palmer's current focus is on plays, thanks partly to Bonnie, who explained her stance on fairy tales.
“I love fairy tales and I grew up on them. I remember my mother reading them to me when I was a child.” Bonnie is also driven by the quote from Albert Einstein “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” This love of fairy tales led to recent additions to the castle, including a life-sized chess board in the courtyard and a more prominent tower Bonnie calls “The Rapunzel Tower.”

Bonnie and Robert”s initial plan was to have a play centered around the chess board, but when the script for that play arrived in its native language, Italian, they decided to go with Rapunzel instead. The current plan is to have casting completed and move forward with the rest of the production. Once casting and costumes are finished, rehearsals will follow. The show will have four showings in October if they get the needed roles filled which include four male roles. If you’re interested in auditioning for the play or interested in volunteering, check out Chateau Charmant’s Facebook page and website or send an email to owner@charmingcastle.com.
