Is that Really Necessary?

Posted

In response to JT’s complaint on time change last week: I so agree. Boo to time change! Let’s get rid of it.

And in response to Senator Mike Moon’s op ed regarding his new bill on minor gender transitioning, I am again, in total agreement. The human brain does not fully develop until we are in our mid-20s. So maybe wait until you’re at least a few years shy of that ripe old age to make such a drastically life changing decision, right? Maybe just chill, and feel out those awkward years a bit. If you still want to as an adult, great! It’s an adult decision with huge consequences, and letting a kid make that important of a choice is misguided.

Personally, I have passed by fields of cows and wished that my entire life consisted of recreationally standing there, deciding which patch of grass to eat next. So, should I have three more stomachs surgically inserted into my body, and then hope that a farmer adopts me into his herd of ruminants? Probably not a good idea. I should probably just accept the reality that I will not be a great cow.

However, we can use the feelings our body gives us to learn about ourselves. And, we need to decipher if it is coming from us, something we really need to listen to, or just emanating from society and its media.

If it’s something we should pay attention to, we can ask ourselves, “What facet of myself is sending me this message that something needs to change, and what is it that needs to change?” Unhappiness, and not feeling satisfied will not be avoided by changing some mere physical things about oneself.

The whole deal reminds me of Adam Sandler’s 2019 Saturday Night Live skit, when he parodied the guy in commercials who tries to sell cruises to Italy. In the skit, some vacationers were unhappy with their trip; it wasn’t as awesome as they thought it would be. Adam dryly informs potential customers, complete with a map and marker as a drawing board, basically saying “If you are unhappy here, and I transport you to Italy, you will still be the same unhappy person when you get to Italy.” He continues that, “What you need are small, incremental lifestyle changes.” Since he's Adam Sandler, his delivery is priceless!

Androgynous people have been around since ancient times- there's nothing new. If loving acceptance of all types of humans is where we’re at as a culture, then that would be just swell! But, this is really something else in Acceptance’s masquerade. Because, until recent times, they were never barraged with outside messages from (well-meaning?) influencers, etc. who pushed the families into physical decisions at such an early age. Minors are going to change their minds many times as it regards their likes and dislikes, preferences and tastes, and are highly impressionable, so let’s not push something on them that’s going to irreversibly change the entire rest of their lives.

As to where Webster, the little newspaper, was sitting, I had no idea! But it looked like a great place for a Webster county picnic!
