How did I get here?

Posted

We are back with another chapter of How did I get here? Last week's chapter ended with me resigning from my job at a call center. It was scary to go from a steady job to nothing, but I knew it was the best decision in the long run.

So what now? Well, I was determined to make my dream of being a writer come true. I also knew that an aspiring writer would not pay the bills. After some job searching, I found something, thanks to a family member. The job was in a kitchen which was a change of pace for me. I liked the hustle, coworkers, and some members of management. The overall boss, though, could have been better. The boss had been promoted to another location and was in the process of transitioning. It was painfully obvious they did not care about the current location or the employees.

I wanted to avoid repeating the last job experience, so I worked on a personal blog website and actively looked for other work. As I was juggling the kitchen work with writing, I found another opportunity to make money, and that was through medical research. Seeing that I could make more money being a lab rat than a cook, I resigned from the kitchen on good terms and started medical research.

One day though, as I was writing my blog, my wife came across a post on social media; our local paper was looking for a full-time writer.

Was this the break I was looking for? Only one way to find out, so I applied for the job, and the rest is history.

I still write on my off days, and with how much I've improved mentally, physically, and spiritually, I'm in a much better place than I was years ago. I'm happy to be allowed to write about this community. So now you know how I got here.

Have a good rest of your shift, and I will see you next week.
