Fordland local wins photo contest

Posted

Every year the Missouri Department of Agriculture hosts a photo contest called Focus on Missouri Agriculture Photo Contest. “The purpose of the photo contest is to showcase the diversity of agriculture in Missouri,” Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn explained in an article published by the MO Dept. of Agriculture.

Haley Scott of Fordland has competed in the contest the last two years. “I entered in a picture of my daughter…they have different categories and hers was ‘Faces of the Farm’,” explained Scott. “I love taking pictures, especially of farms. I do most of it out here on our farm. I’ll do some here and there for friends or family…if they want me to come out if they are working cattle I’ll come do that.”

A self proclaimed amateur photographer, Scott heard about the contest through word of mouth. “Someone shared it on Facebook that maybe I should try entering so I did,” explained Scott. Inspired by her daughter Clara who is 2 1/2 years old, Scott actually entered the contest last year as well. “… a picture of my daughter with some Holstein Heifers that won, it got second place in that category,” shared Scott.

“I’d love to get into more photography-especially the agriculture side of things. I’ve done some work here and there. I went and helped at the Heart of America Dairy expo. I’ve considered advertising to see if people would want me to come out and get pictures while they work cattle,” reflected Scott on her love of photography.

“…I would have killed for my mom to get pictures of me the way I get pictures of Clara. I hope she appreciates that some day,” laughed Scott.
