Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Posted

When a bard and barbarian decide to bust out of jail to reclaim their lost treasure, they will find their path filled with new and old allies, betrayal, magic, dragons, and comedy.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves rolled for initiative on March 31 this year and has received a generally positive reception overall. After finally seeing it, I decided to roll my dice and give my thoughts. With that in mind, here is a spoiler-free review of Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

There is a lot to love about this film. The story is simple, with plenty of laughs and references to give audiences, regardless of their prior knowledge of D&D enjoyment. I liked how vast and immersive the world was and all the inhabitants. From the undead, owlbears, and dragons, there is so much to adore and more. The production used digital and practical effects, which I could gush on and on about but, for the sake of space, will not.

The cast is fantastic, focusing mainly on Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez's characters. Other notable actors include Hugh Grant, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and many more. The movie was, in all honesty, fun, just like how D&D is fun. People get wrapped up worrying about the little things like numbers, when to roll, how to act, or even trying to make it real. But that is not what D&D is about. To quote a rapper, "The genre's called Fantasy; it's meant to be unrealistic!" This movie reminded me that it is about having fun.

With all the monsters and general fun I had for the movie, it's a critical hit, so I give Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves five cocoanuts out of five. The film is still in theaters, so do yourself a favor and check it out. That's all the time I have. Please excuse me; I have some dungeons and stories to create for my own D&D games. Thank you all for reading, and try to have a good rest of your shift.
