Conway alum’ joins Mail team

Posted

Webster County native and Conway alumnus Ryder Berger is the newest member of the Marshfield Mail team, joining as a sports reporter.

"It's been a goal of mine to build a solid lineup of local reporters since I first joined the Mail in 2020," said Editor Shelby Atkison. "Ryder is a perfect fit for our team."

"It's so exciting to get to join this team and chase stories in the same area I grew up," Berger said. "I can't wait to get started."

Berger was born in Arkansas and raised in Ozark county until 2009 when his father became the superintendent of Conway High School and moved the family to Rader. A teacher’s kid by raising, Berger graduated from Conway in 2020 and attended St. Charles Community College to pursue a political science degree. In high school, Berger was active in basketball, baseball, FFA, and FBLA. He also attended the VoTech in Lebanon.

“Public education has been a cornerstone of my life,” Berger said. “I’m excited to get to know more of the educators in Webster County and as we try to cover as much as possible in the sports section.”

Berger currently resides in Springfield where he pursues a degree in political science from Missouri State University, with aspirations of becoming a public defender in the future. In his free time he enjoys going to the river with family and friends, reading, and playing basketball.

Prior to becoming a reporter at the Marshfield Mail, Berger was a concrete finisher for several companies in Webster County including Replogle Concrete, Storie Concrete Construction, and Donco3. After working in concrete for almost seven years, Berger decided to step away from construction in order to pursue journalism, which he has always found an interest in and is more aligned with his future career path.

“I’m stoked to be able to help tell the stories around our local teams as I attempt to become a familiar face at the courts and on the fields. If you see me at a game, don’t be a stranger," he added.
