Strafford alum’ and Chief of Police Dennis Shook has been in law enforcement for over 30 year, with 25 of them at the Springfield Police Department, and now almost a decade as the Chief in Strafford.
Shook graduated as an Indian in 1980.
“I was a little bit onrey as a kid in this town, and to say that I’m the police chief now...” Shook laughed.
Shook joined the Springfield Police Department in 1989. Over the next 25 years, he built a reputation of honesty and hard work until he retired in 2014. He figured his career in law enforcement was over, but when Strafford PD had an opening for a chief, Shook was offered the position.
“They offered me the job and I came up and applied,” said Shook. “It’s a heck of a job.”
Shook is a Strafford native through and through. All three of his sons graduated as Indians, and now he continues to protect and serve as Chief.
“It’s a rewarding position to be in,” added Shook. “I enjoy being the police chief because of the people. There’s good people, supportive people, and I enjoy it so much. I’m here to serve to the best of my ability.”
