Saturday evening, I had the honor of attending the Marshfield Community Theatre’s annual award show. MCT is not only one of my favorite groups in Webster County because of my past involvement in performances, but also because of Kelby Lorenz.
Kelby handles all the marketing at MCT. He’s always kind, communicative, and upbeat. We are truly lucky to have someone with years of marketing and communications experience dedicated to giving back to the community theatre.
Before the awards, Kelby reached out to let me know that the Marshfield Mail would be receiving the MCT Community Sponsor Award this year, as a thank you for the paper’s efforts in generating awareness of their work both in print and online throughout the year. We are honored by this recognition.
Sometimes, this job can be overwhelming. Over the past year, it’s taken a lot of effort to try to cover every town in the county, but it’s impossible to cover everything. However, without Kelby’s passion for promoting community theatre—whether it’s shows, programs, educational opportunities, or anything else—or his quick responses to my many questions, it wouldn’t have been possible for our single writer to prioritize coverage of the theatre. Especially given how much the paper simply can’t cover each week.
What I truly appreciate about Kelby is how he picked up the slack and made sure I had all the information I needed throughout 2024. From media packs and press releases to flyers and quotes, he ensured I was always in the loop. This made it easy to get stories together quickly and share them with the community.
That’s how it has to work, folks. While I wish I could be in ten places at once, it’s simply not realistic. Kelby saw that gap and immediately worked to bridge it. I can’t thank him enough for that!
Because of this, we had a successful 2024, and I look forward to working with him again this year.
I don’t think any small-town journalist does it for the money. It certainly isn’t out of ease. For me, I continue to work at the Marshfield Mail because I love this community. I grew up here. I live here. I am happy here.
Most importantly, I feel connected to the community I hold so dear. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our local paper, submits news, sends story tips, or simply keeps me informed about what’s going on. Together, we are all stronger.
And a big thank you to the Marshfield Community Theatre for continuing to be a pillar in our county!
