With Missouri's Aug. 4 primary election approaching, members of the Webster County Republican Central Committee are getting ready for the next phase of the campaign season.
Kent Christon, who represents the Northview area on the committee, said the primary will narrow each race to one Republican candidate. After that, the committee will focus on supporting those nominees heading into the general election.
"We'll get behind that candidate with funding and promotion and try to get them to the finish line," Christon said.
He said the committee's work extends beyond supporting candidates. Members also spend time educating voters about constitutional amendments and other ballot issues that appear in local and statewide elections.
"We try to provide information to the community so people can have an informed vote," Christon said.
The committee holds monthly meetings that are open to the public. Christon said anyone interested in learning more about the Republican Party or simply wanting information about upcoming elections is welcome to attend.
Meetings are typically held at the Webster County Justice Center on the northeast side of the Marshfield square.
In addition to its meetings, the committee is expanding its online presence. Christon said the organization has launched a new Webster County Republican Central Committee Facebook page and plans to add other social media platforms. The change will allow the committee to better share information and promote upcoming events.
Residents can also stop by the committee's headquarters on the west side of the Marshfield square, across from the courthouse next to Complete Realty.
"We have information, sample ballots and everything people need to be prepared for this next election," Christon said.
The Webster County Republican Central Committee plans to continue meeting each month as members prepare for both the primary election and the November general election.
