Vigil planned for this weekend

Posted

A community vigil will be held at Marshfield Street Eats in honor of Charlie Kirk and the victims of recent school shootings. The event, organized by Dripz and Dreamz owner Shellie Davis, is set to take place at the food truck park located at 50 York Drive, near Walmart.

Davis said she felt called to host the vigil as a way to bring people together in faith and unity during a difficult time.

“As Christians, we need to take a stand and spread God’s word and love like we’re supposed to,” Davis explained. “We can’t let this coward us down. We need to stand like Charlie.”

The event will focus on spreading love, lifting up the victims, and reflecting on the values Kirk stood for, particularly his dedication to encouraging young people.

“Charlie was about the youth, and the school shootings go right into what he stood for. Because he did not stand for violence,” Davis said. “He was trying to open the eyes of the youth and bring them to God. That’s God’s whole purpose... to have a family.”

To prepare for the gathering, Davis has ordered 200 candles for attendees, but she encourages community members to bring their own as well. The vigil will include moments of prayer, reflection, and unity, offering a chance for residents to show support for families and communities impacted by violence.

The public is invited to attend.
