Two people have been charged after police say they cut through a fence at a Marshfield towing business and took items from a vehicle inside the lot.
According to probable cause statements filed in Webster County Circuit Court, Gaige Scott Jackson and Daylee Jackson were arrested following an investigation into property damage and theft at a local impound lot.
Police say the case began on Aug. 5, when Gaige Jackson contacted the Marshfield Police Department after his truck had been towed from the scene of an accident. He complained about the towing fees but was told the matter was between him and the business.
The next morning, the towing company reported that someone had cut a hole in its chain-link fence. Surveillance footage showed two people entering the lot and removing a tote of items from a red truck. The business owner estimated the damage to the fence at about $800.
Witnesses reported seeing a red diesel pickup truck with Illinois plates near the business. One witness said he observed a male and a female carrying items around 7 to 9 a.m.
Later that day, the Rogersville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford pickup matching the description. Officers identified the occupants as Gaige Jackson and Daylee Jackson. Both were arrested and taken to the Webster County Jail.
During questioning, Gaige Jackson admitted to cutting the fence and retrieving property from the vehicle. Daylee Jackson, however, refused to cooperate with investigators, according to the report.
Both suspects are now charged with first-degree property damage and first-degree trespassing.
Gaige Jackson posted $1,000 cash bond on Aug. 11, with an itial appearance set for Aug. 26 in front of Judge Justin Evans. Daylee Jackson was released on own recognizance Aug. 11 with an inital appearance set for Sept. 2.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
