Senior Tax Freeze Applications Open May 1

Posted

The application period for first-time applicants for a ‘senior citizen’s tax freeze’ opens May 1 and closes on June 30. Webster County started the program in 2025.

Taxpayers aged 62 and above may apply to receive a credit on their owner-occupied residential property taxes, which should keep that portion of their tax bill at or near the amount paid during their initial credit year.

The applications of those who applied in 2025 are being reviewed for ‘automatic renewal’. Taxpayers who qualify for the ‘auto-renewal’ - have not had any changes, are current on their taxes, and are registered voters - are being notified by mail that they do not need to reapply.

Many have already received the postcard notification, with the remaining postcards expected to go out by the end of this week.

Over 2,000 applications were received in 2025. “The review process is taking longer than expected,” according to County Clerk Stan Whitehurst. “But we are getting close.”

If you applied last year and have not received a postcard notification by May 1, you are encouraged to call the County Clerk’s Office to confirm the status of your tax credit application. Likewise, first-time applicants or those with questions can call 417-859-8683 for more information – or email clerk@webstercountymo.gov.
