Route A Closure Moved to Dec. 8-17

Posted

Drivers traveling near Diggins will want to take note of a newly rescheduled road closure on Webster County Route A.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the closure just north of Normandy Road has been moved to Monday, December 8, through Wednesday, December 17, after last week’s weather conditions delayed the original December 1–10 timeline.

During the closure, contractor crews will connect Route A to the newly constructed North Outer Road as part of the larger U.S. Route 60 and Webster County Route A interchange improvement project between Diggins and Fordland. Once Route A reopens, traffic will be permanently rerouted to Route O, using the new North Outer Road to access U.S. Route 60.

The work will bring several temporary traffic impacts. Route A will be closed just north of Normandy Road, and drivers can expect lane closures on U.S. Route 60 between Route A and Route O in Diggins. The eastbound passing lane on Route 60 will be closed, along with the westbound driving lane. Route 60 will remain open throughout the project, but MoDOT is urging motorists to find alternate routes when possible. No signed detours are planned, though signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone. Weather or construction delays could shift the schedule.

The Route A work is one piece of a multi-year, $39.8 million project led by Capital Paving & Construction LLC of Jefferson City. The improvement plan includes building an interchange at U.S. Route 60 and Route A, constructing a bridge over Route 60 and the BNSF Railroad, and connecting Route NN to the new interchange using the North Outer Road. A roundabout is planned for the new Route NN/Route A intersection south of Route 60, and a new South Outer Road will run between Route Z in Fordland and Route A in Diggins along the south side of the BNSF line.

The project will also eliminate nine railroad crossings—Route NN, Greenbriar Drive, Honor Camp Lane, Tandy Road, Hummingbird Lane, Bluebird Lane and three private drives—and remove nine access points along Route 60, including at Routes A and NN, Route O (which will become right-in, right-out only), and several private or low-volume roads.

The full interchange project is scheduled for completion in December 2027.
