A new Webster County program is helping make sure local mothers have some of the basics they need while raising young children.
The Baby Bridge Program was highlighted during a Sept. 10 community meeting led by Ashley Dedmon.
Taylor Williams and Ruby Davis, community navigators with the Webster County Health Unit, explained how the new program provides kits and educational materials to mothers.
Several types of kits are available depending on a family's needs. They include a Welcome Kit, Diaper Kit, Health and Hygiene Kit, and Potty-Training Kit.
Local organizations working with families are encouraged to refer clients to the Webster County Health Unit, where they can talk with staff about receiving a kit.
Some supplies, including diapers, are available only while supplies last. Families are encouraged to follow the Health Unit and Community Navigator Facebook pages for updates on availability.
The meeting also included an update on local substance-use prevention efforts.
Organizers reported that required matching support for a Drug-Free Communities grant has reached 110%, exceeding the minimum 100% requirement.
The recent Youth Rally also reached about 400 young people in one night. Organizers used the event as an opportunity to talk with students about Substance-Free Athletics.
Several area agencies provided updates on other services available to Webster County residents.
The Youth Resilience Campus in Springfield is now available around the clock and can assist with de-escalation.
Jordan Valley Community Health Center reported that walk-in substance-use treatment is available at its locations. Pediatric and pediatric dental services are also available.
Lane Change has a community awareness event planned for Sept. 26 on the Marshfield Square.
OACAC Head Start reported openings and services available for pregnant women and children age 5 and younger. Openings were also reported at Zuzu's House.
The meeting included new attendees from Burrell Behavioral Health, along with Sean Falconer and John Gray.
Organizations also voted on chair-elect and member-at-large positions. Results were expected to be announced later.
The group's next meeting is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. on Oct. 8.
