In a heartfelt show of gratitude, the Marshfield Police Department took time this week to honor local veterans and senior citizens at the Marshfield Senior Center. Officers volunteered their time to serve meals, offer assistance, and engage in meaningful conversations with the senior community—a gesture that highlighted the department’s appreciation for both veterans and the elderly population.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to serve those who have served our country," said Police Chief Doug Fannen. "Visiting with our senior veterans and hearing their stories is not only an honor but a reminder of the sacrifices they made for our freedom. It’s moments like these that make our work truly meaningful."
The special event at the Senior Center was an opportunity for the officers to connect with the community and show their appreciation in a personal way. Officers spent time chatting with veterans, listening to their experiences, and sharing stories of their own. Many of the veterans at the Senior Center have lived through pivotal moments in history, and their conversations were filled with powerful recollections of their time in service.
Among the officers who participated were three recent additions to the department, all of whom were hired as part of the city’s law enforcement tax initiative. Notably, two of the three new officers are military veterans themselves, with both still serving in the military reserves. Their military backgrounds made the event even more meaningful, as they shared a unique bond with the veterans they served alongside.
The Marshfield Police Department has long been committed to community engagement, and this event at the Senior Center was just one of many efforts aimed at fostering positive relationships with the community. By volunteering their time and taking the opportunity to honor local veterans, the department reaffirmed its dedication to serving and supporting the people who live and work in Marshfield.
As the day came to a close, the sense of camaraderie and respect between the officers and the veterans was evident. The Marshfield Police Department is looking forward to continuing this tradition of honoring and serving local veterans, ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
"We are grateful for the veterans in our community, and we are committed to continuing to find ways to show them the appreciation they truly deserve," Chief Fannen added.
