MDC and partners improve fish habitat at Stockton Lake

Posted

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) recently partnered to improve fish habitat in Stockton Lake.

The joint effort focused on the northwest corner of the lake, starting from the Stockton boat ramp. Crews significantly enhanced the aquatic environment by replenishing 14 existing brush piles and constructing 45 new ones, a process that required approximately 75 barge loads of trees.

Anglers interested in the locations of these and other fish habitat structures can find detailed information on the MDC website at mdc.mo.gov/fishing/where-fish or through the free MDC MO Fishing mobile application, available at mdc.mo.gov/contact-engage/mobile-apps/mo-fishing.

Stockton Lake is a prime destination for both food and sport-fishing, offering a diverse array of species. The best fishing prospects include crappie, walleye, largemouth bass, and both flathead and channel catfish.
